Single Review

Following the brilliant album, ‘Monophony’, the French band DEKAD released the Single ‘New Religion’ with two remixes of the homonymous track, another song ‘Don’t Try’ remixed by NEUTRAL LIES and a brand new song titled ‘Ordinary Love’. What is characteristic in their sound is that the band doesn’t follow the mouldy trend of the retro electro/synth pop obsession but actually enriches it. The whole feeling of their sound is near to the CAMOUFLAGE yet it seems to be away from it by some light years. The band has seriously considered that the soundscape has changed drastically from mid-80’s till now and the music didn’t die at about 1987 AD. Whilst DEKAD affirms its close affinities with the 80’s they look into the future.

The whole album has this irresistible bittersweet feeling, continuing on what ‘Monophony’ provoked. As for the remixes, the most striking is the one by BUDDHA IN TROUBLE with the opening acoustic guitar mixed with electronic music, but truth be told all of them are exquisite. ‘Ordinary Love’ is a synth pop anthem which you might dance but more than likely you’ll fall in love with. The single is excellent, it proves to me also that this band should be known more than it is, they have so much to offer and are truly talented.
