MOON74 is a one man’s band, Hein has managed to get signed and to have his album hailed with a reward of being called “The Electronic album of 2013”, yet why do I feel this is a let-down to his debut, which though had weaknesses showed a promise nevertheless? It’s because the weaknesses didn’t vanish but seem to overwhelm the good. The music lets Hein’s insufficient vocal (admittedly this particular trend doesn’t seem to be a pool of vocal talent and it’s usually ok, but a little versatility does give music a better vibe and a degree of sonic enjoyment) be more prominent, it seems also simplistic and fails to create a resonant emotion, moreover, they just seem to be juggling the genre’s clichés and maybe it’s that what appeals mostly to super young listeners who apparently kept it in German charts. Maybe they’re just very enjoyable on the dance floor, I don’t know, but I just can’t get into this release.
