Album Review
LES DISCRETS (The Discrete) have been created as a "platform gathering music and art" by Fursy Teyssier, formerly on guitars for AMESOEURS, former live guitarist for ALCEST and presently for EMPYRIUM and THE VISION BLEAK as well as being an illustrator. As a multi-instrumentalist he was able to be the sole face of LES DISCRETS till 2009 when other members were taken on, but presently the band consists of him and Audrey Hadorn on vocals.
I’ve never been a big fan of audio live releases – but I will make, begrudgingly, an exception here, simply because you don’t really stumble across this wonderful band very much so any piece of them will do. Yet I am torn on this still. It can be at times too calm and the beautiful melancholy of the albums subdued – in other words, more shoegaze live and less of the post-rock. The mood comes out more flat and that’s a shame though. If it was the first time I’ve heard of them I wouldn’t be compelled to get their new upcoming album ‘Prédateurs’ much or look back for older material because what really makes them is the melancholy that wasn’t to be felt in this live performance. And even though as I said it didn’t make me exactly enthusiastic, still it was a lovely listen if nothing more.
