KRIMINAL MINDS was founded by Luxo Orteg and DJ Konzept already in 1997, but the project did not achieve wide international recognition before Racso Agroyam known of HOCICO and DULCE LIQUIDO started producing them. KRIMINAL MINDS upgrade the traditional aggrotech sound with techno, hard-style and even gabber influences. 'Resistance Against' is their debut album and as such, undoubtedly stronger than the average.
'Resistance Against' consists exclusively of brutal, harsh and unforgiving music, with DJ Konzept providing the extremely heavily distorted vocals. From the first bars on, it is clear that we are dealing with Mexican dark electro - not so surprising taken the producer. The album is actually divided in two parts: The second part is opened with instrumental 'Intro' which is followed by remixes by e.g. DULCE LIQUIDO that are stylistically virtually indistinguishable from the album versions.
The album as whole is very coherent and none of the tracks sounds like being out of place. While the tracks themselves are not all similar, many of them are a bit long for their content - probably designed with a dance floor in mind - which means they tend to get somewhat repetitive. Probably the weakest point is the rather monotonic vocals which are overall very heavily distorted. Together with the repetitiveness, the lack of variation in vocals and all the tracks being equally harsh and heavy, makes listening the whole 77-minute album a numbing experience.
The album includes several prospective club hits but I would be surprised if any of these tracks would still be spun in ten years. At this stage, KRIMINAL MINDS seems to lack extraordinary qualities that would set them apart from other artists in their genre and make them unforgettable, but their debut album is definitely a must-have for fans of Mexican dark electro and harsh EBM - and who knows what is yet to come?
