Something imperceptible and inexpressible distinguishes the Finnish metal scene from the rest of “heavy world”. Undoubtedly every country has a number of peculiarities that naturally expresses in music and tinges a band, giving it, even a metal one some national colour. As to Finland it’s hard to find a country richer in metal projects and more conservative in the genre itself. KINETIK CONTROL once more proves it with their new release entitled ‘Only Truth Remains’: the typical dynamic slowness, catchy tunes, deep vocals which rarely please with variety but give comfort with the heartfelt lyricism and distinctive timbre. One can’t say that the band opens a new, hitherto unknown chapter in the book of metal however it would be unfair to reproach the musicians for similarity to HIM, NIGHTWISH, SENTENCED, but fair enough to mark this fact.
Speaking about the music, the combination of electronic sounds with over-laden guitars can’t be called original yet KINETIK CONTROL has a special feature: the saxophone and harmonica sound quite interesting in the near-gothic pop-rock arrangement. Of course, sometimes this trick may be considered inappropriate but here everything is rather harmonious and suitable. The band’s lyrics are simple and clear, revolving around the eternal subjects that are oriented to every concrete “you”. The album produces a really good impression and may be listened several times in succession, mostly because the songs are complicate enough and a listener needs time to understand them to the full. So ‘Only Truth Remains’ will attract a wide audience however for some it could seem to be too ordinary.
