Album Review

After the critically acclaimed ‘Salvation’ from 2007 and the ‘Reapercussion’ EP, a collection of re-interpretations of various international artists, the Germany fife-piece comes out with some new material on ‘Romancer’.

Listening to the lyrics, the overall lyrical theme on ‘Romancer’ is love in different facets, presented by the highly melodic chant of Skye, trying to transport as much emotion as possible, while his voice is soaring over the differently coloured song structures which all have a melancholic character though. ‘Right from The Start’ for instance starts with a dense intro sequence made of layered electronic rhythms, some piano part and smooth pads before the drums and harsh guitars come in to complement the track. The production of the individual tracks is very well done, especially the drums and even more the electronic elements sound top notch. In contrast to the before mentioned ‘Right from The Start’, the track ‘Skin on Skin’ rather highlights the rocking element in the sound of ROZENCRANTZ, but forget to bring in a healthy doze of synthetics.

Not all tracks meet with my tastes, but all in all it is to say that ‘Romancer’ is a nice piece of Goth Rock music, everyone who’s got some kind of affinity to this genre should at least check out. As bonus there’s three live videos from the performance of the band at this year’s Castle Rock in Mülheim and a video clip to ‘Skin on Skin’ s o the disc is filled to the brim.
