Out on the Japanese Label Supernatual Organisation Discs on December 5th is the limited edition release of Death In June's "The Phoenix has Risen". This limited run of 1000 copies is a very obscure one and was first suspected to be a bootleg, but it is not. Named after the scratched message on Death in June’s very first vinyl release "Heaven Street" (1981), this CD comes from the same label that released Current 93’s LP "Earth Covers Earth" back in 1988. Although brand new this new Death In June release bears the year 1999 on the back sleeve. Conceived and put together by Douglas P. himself the CD contains most probably the earliest Death in June recording ever released such as an 8-tracks ‘Rehearsal Tape’ from 1981, with alternative demo-versions of tracks, of which most were later published on the 12” "Heaven Street" and the album "The Guilty have no pride" (1983). Death in June at this early stage were Douglas P., Tony Wakeford and Patrick Leagas. Also included are 8 additional tracks, recorded live at "The Living Room" in London on September 9 1983. The booklet furthermore contains some amazing photos (among others ‘live at The Fridge’) from the very early days of Death in June. Tracklist: [U.K. Rehearsal Tape 1981] 01 We drive East 02 Knives 03 Nation 04 In the Night Time 05 Himmel Strasse (German for ‘Heaven Street’) 06 Nothing Changes 07 Untitled 08 All alone in her nirvana [intermission] [Live at the Living Room] 09 Intro 10 Till the living flesh is burned 11 All alone in her nirvana 12 Fields 13 We drive east 14 Nothing changes 15 In the Night time 16 Heaven Street.Source: www.side-line.com

The Cure will be recording a new album in January 2006 with a release planned for Summer 2006. According to Porl, he will be staying in the band to work on the album, while Simon says that they have 20 songs already written. Smith is at the meantime wrapping up the next reissues planned for The Cure such as "The blue sunshine", "Top", "The head on the door" and "Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me". All are scheduled for release in spring 2006. Smith has also started writing some film music and putting together a 5.1 live summer 2005 DVD, "In orange". In a remark on the official website Smith also comments on the reason the band is not on the Live8 DVD: "... is because 'they' wanted 'hits'... plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose? Or something..."

Erasure's eagerly anticipated acoustic album "Union Street" is to be released in the UK on the 3rd April 2006. Named after the recording studio in Brooklyn where it was recorded, the album features a collection of the bands previously released songs, reinterpreted in an acoustic / country & western style. In an interview last year Andy Bell had this to say: "I said a few years back (that) I would love to do a Country & Western album and this is kind of a half-half. It's done in the country style on some tracks and we got violins, cellos, all different kinds of instruments and it was really a pleasure to do it and rediscover some of the old songs that we thought could have been singles that never were. It's just really different singing with acoustic instruments than singing with synthesisers. I think it's some of the best singing that I've ever done...". The track listing of Union Street is as follows: 1 Boy, 2 Piano Song, 3 Stay With Me, 4 Spiralling, 5 Home, 6 Tenderest Moments, 7 Alien, 8 Blues Away, 9 How Many Times, 10 Love Affair, 11 Rock Me Gently. The band are also planning a tour after the release of this album. In related news, Andy Bell (with Philip and Chris from Manhattan Clique) have performed in Madrid on World Aids Day last Thursday 1st December. They played a 30 minute set at around 11.15pm at the Sala La Riviera, Paseo De La Virgen Del Puerto S/N Madrid.
