The Smashing Pumpkins - “Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour” 2018
Alternative rock band THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, who originated in Chicago, Illinois, are bringing their full reunion to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis August 17th. The monumental “Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour” features vocalist / guitarist Billy Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and includes original members, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, for the first time since 2000.
Corgan and Iha formed THE SMASHING PUMPKINS in 1988 and released their debut single, ‘I Am One’, in 1990 under indie label Limited Potential. But it wasn’t until the release of their 1993 album ‘Siamese Dream’ that the band flourished in mainstream success while gaining a cult following of angsty yet tender post-punk listeners.
Their 1995 follow-up, ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’, was well received by critics as their most definitive work and hit number one on the Billboard 200. Fans praise ‘Mellon Collie’ as one of the greatest rock albums of the ‘90s. The double album features popular singles such as ‘Zero’, ‘1979’, and ‘Tonight, Tonight’, and each track induces a unique nostalgia. With romantic melodies and heavy lyrical undertones, THE PUMPKINS are a tribute to the most important decade in grunge history.
