Over 15 million records sold worldwide, more than 1.3 billion streams, 14 platinum and nine gold certifications: FRANZ FERDINAND are not only one of the most successful British bands of the past 20 years but also one of the last standing bastions of the wave of new UK bands that took the world by storm with fresh rock sounds at the start of the millennium. After celebrating their 20th anniversary three years ago with the dynamic retrospective ‘Hits To The Head’, they are set to return on January 10, 2025, with their sixth album, ‘The Human Fear’. Following the release, FRANZ FERDINAND will embark on a major European tour, which includes three German concerts in Munich, Berlin, and Cologne from February 22 to February 28.

FRANZ FERDINAND have long been celebrated across Europe, North America, and even Asia for their unique style - a Rock sound that’s as danceable as it is sophisticated. With each of their five previous albums, the band led by singer, guitarist, and visionary Alex Kapranos has evolved substantially while retaining their distinctive trademarks: edgy staccato guitars, driving beats, instantly catchy hooks, and a rare energy that balances melancholic compositions with a vibrant, life-affirming spirit. Since their founding as a quartet in 2002, they’ve continuously adapted their sound, drawing on genres such as Noise Rock, Disco, and Pop, and reinventing themselves with each album rather than merely copying past successes. FRANZ FERDINAND have achieved what’s rare in today’s Rock scene: they’ve managed to be both substantial and widely accessible, evolving yet remaining unmistakable. They are also credited with almost single-handedly reviving the Post-Punk of the late 70s and the New Wave of the early 80s on a global scale.

The band’s potential was evident from the beginning: their debut single, ‘Darts of Pleasure’, landed in the UK Top 50 in 2003, and just four months later, their second single, ‘Take Me Out’, reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. By the time their self-titled debut album ‘Franz Ferdinand’ was released in March 2004, the band’s reputation had spread across Europe. The album climbed into the Top 40 in Europe, the U.S., and Australia, reaching No. 3 in the UK. At the end of the year, the band received the prestigious Mercury Prize, along with a BRIT and an Ivor Novello Award.

The band has enjoyed consistent success since then: each of their next four albums - ‘You Could Have It So Much Better’ (2005), ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand’ (2009), ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action’ (2013), and ‘Always Ascending’ (2018) - reached at least No. 6 on the UK charts. Seven singles made it into the UK Top 20, including modern Rock classics like ‘(The Dark of the) Matinée’, ‘Do You Want To’, and ‘Walk Away’.

Now, after six years of work interrupted only by their first greatest hits compilation for their 20th anniversary, the band is ready to release ‘The Human Fear’. Conceptually, it’s an album about the empowering force that can arise from inner fears. “Fear makes us feel alive,” says Alex Kapranos. The album was recorded entirely live, with all songs fully arranged before the band entered the studio. The goal was to capture Franz Ferdinand’s raw energy as authentically as possible, resulting in an album where the now-expanded quintet sounds as fresh and dynamic as on their classic debut.
