Speaking about the making of the song, Kele says: “There wasn’t one specific incident that inspired me to write this song - it was more a mixture of many things I’ve seen in clubs over the years when two love rivals meet are advised. Moments like this have always fascinated me. It’s like a fuse being lit - words become actions, which in turn lead to violence. Such moments reveal a lot about who people really are. I think ‘The Girls Are Fighting’ is kind of self-explanatory - someone sold someone else’s dreams who shouldn’t have and it’s catching up to them now. I just wanted to capture a snapshot of an evening at a sweaty nightclub, where you go from zero to a hundred for nothing. I’m really happy with the arrangement of the song because it has that 1970s Glam Rock meets ADAM ANT feel to it. I just love what Louise does with the tom-toms.”
The new single is accompanied by a stirring video of the band playing at the legendary Repton Boxing Club - an old Victorian bathhouse converted into a boxing club in London's Bethnal Green where the Kray twins used to train. You can watch the video, directed by Cameron Ward and produced by Luke Filz here:
