When de la Cour released his single ‘Hey You, Hell No’ earlier this fall, it was the first piece of music he had released as a solo artist in six years. Shortly after its release, he joined fellow Swedes and synth-pop duo KITE on their extended Europe tour. ‘Interlude’ is taken from his forthcoming album ‘My Bones, Your Ashes’, which will be released on January 31st.
Earlier this fall, HENRIC DE LA COUR marked his return with single ‘Hey You, Hell No’ - a whopping six years after his latest album ‘Gimme Daggers’ was released. He’s taken this time to do some soul searching, and have come out on the other side in a partially new suit. Still present, are all those elements that fans have loved ever since the first time they came in contact with the now legendary vocalist, especially in connection with the breakthrough of his iconic Swedish band YVONNE in the 90’s - grandness, desperation and pop music carefully balancing on a knife’s edge between the darkest of indie and the most fragile of synth-pop.
Above all this, we find that his new music is carved from a distilled sound. The soundscape is more spacious. The lyrics more precise. The production - like the previous solo albums, were also created in a collaboration Rikard Lindh - explore rooms that have not been explored before. HENRIC DE LA COUR says a lot more, with a lot less, and the authenticity is constant throughout all the songs. The next track, taken from his forthcoming album titled ‘My Bones, Your Ashes’, is called ‘Interlude’ and reveals a much more restrained sound than in ‘Hey You, Hell No’. HENRIC DE LA COUR sings over a majestic backdrop, which towards the end blossoms into a redemptive string section. The song points toward the overall route his new album is taking - a discrepancy between expressions that are bound together by de la Cours characteristic voice.
HENRIC DE LA COUR has under his soon-to-be 30-year career released three albums as a solo artist, two as a member in STRIP MUSIC and four as a frontman in YVONNE. He has also been portrayed in the documentary “Henric de la Cour” which has had a long run in Swedish television, and he has toured frequently all over Europe - just recently on a fall tour as support to KITE on their big Europe tour.
