‘Augen auf und durch’ so the title of the debut by Berlin-based trio LENZ, coming to us in spring, so open your eyes and ears, as the album also offers lyrics between the two poles of thoughtfulness and irony. The music: Always looking for the perfect pop song with lots of guitar plucks and keys, mingled with wonderful melodies and thought-provoking German-tongued lyrics. Being a guitar band with a keyboard back in the early days, a signature band sound developed with the piano as a core element, which even sounds huge, when performed live.The first EP ‘Lenz und das Six-pack’ was self-produced, recorded at the rehearsal room, the ‘Popschutz’ studio respectively and remarkably mixed by Oliver Frost, actually one half of the Reggae producer duo FROST & WAGNER. In 2006, they’ve been invited as ‘Emergenza’ insider’s tip to the best-of showcase in Munich and within the scope of the Myspace live voting they’ve been voted on the stage of the Silverwings in Berlin. First radio performances, successes in voting’s and contests followed as well as great reception from the press. That same year, they’ve found their official home at modernsoul/Universal and in September started working with the producer team OJA on their debut album. As winners of the German ‘Rock Battle’ contest they’re offered a management deal in summer 2008.
On 17th/18th January, LENZ were busy shooting the video for their first single ‘Gib mir Bescheid’ in a gallery named ‘Edition Block’ situated near Berlin’s central train station in huge rooms with works of Beuys, Marcel Broodthaers, John Cage, Richard Hamilton, Nam June Paik and many more. Besides that, the Turkish rat foundation Tanas (http://www.tanasberlin.de/) resides there. Currently an exhibition by Nasan Tur is taking place there. On the well-prepared piano of Carles Santos, covered with porn stickers, Rich, singer and pianist of the band LENZ is going to perform.
On 1st March 2009, Lenz will be at Fritz radio station within the scopes of the show ‘Unsigned’ and live on 7th March at Berlin’s Red Saloon.
