Flash Review

MALLORY KNOX´ second long-player ‘Asymmetry’ is a solid bundle of well-shaped stadium rock anthems, endemic to the gap between the FOO FIGHTERS´ energy and the melodic of BLINK 182 or any other band Tom DeLonge was involved in. But somehow they fail to hold a candle to any of them. The Cambridge quintet´s songs pass your perception too unidirectional; too congruent and isochromatic is their imprint. Maybe that´s caused by the fact that every song on that album seemingly had to decide either being a pathetic wide screen rocker or a roughed up mid-tempo ballad. There seems not much more in between. Admittedly there are really good songs to find, like the pushing ‘Dying To Survive’, the melancholic ‘Heart & Desire’, the peristaltic ‘Lonely Hours’ or the bittersweet ‘She Took Him To The Lake’, but oddly they feel all but asymmetric, they seem to drown in a sonic fog of resemblances, cause continuing sensorial déjà vus throughout the whole running time.

Conclusion: Not uncomfortable but exciting neither.
