I always respect bands that stay together for the long haul and record LP after LP, in this case even more because it is a NWOBHM band that still exists after over 40 years. RAVEN is back with full-length rager numero 14 ‘Metal City’. Fourteen LPs and countless Singles, EPs, Splits and Compilations are the legacy of RAVEN. Sound-wise this is melodic, old-school Heavy Metal with hints of Thrash (if you, dear reader doesn’t already know because you are a super fan of RAVEN). To be honest I am astounded by John Gallagher’s voice, that guy sounds like he is 25! Screams and all! 2020 is a shitshow of a year but it is a great year for Thrash Metal that much I can tell! ‘Metal City’ is a banger of a record, ‘Top of the Mountain’ is a up-tempo song lead by a killer riff, ‘Human Race’ is even more furious and who could hate a song called ‘Cybertron’? Lyrical-wise RAVEN is more on the crazy and humorous side of Metal but don’t make a mistake, the arrangements are quite complex and the drumming on this record is insane.
Conclusion: If you dig crazy, complex metal that kicks your ass come and check this out!
