Greece is not the first country to think of when it comes to Stoner music but if I learned one thing in the last couple of years it is that all things are fluid and boundaries are an illusion. THE SAME RIVER from Athens, Greece is Alternative, Stoner, Psychedelic, Doom among other labels and styles but the surest thing I can name them are dry and very melodic. As there is not much data on these guys I can only state that they have been around since 2020 at least. With a bit of fantasy, you can detect influences of BLACK SABBATH, PINK FLOYD and ALL THEM WITCHES in the sound of the four Greek stoners. What I really adore on this record is the fact that even if the tracks are dry as dust and psychedelic as fuck, there is not a moment where you get the idea that these guys imitate some pre-existing outfits. Overall, this is top-notch heavy music that clearly has its inspirations but manages to stand on its own feet and be authentic and surprisingly creative at the same time.
Conclusion: If you dig the aforementioned bands and genres: read no more, buy this!
