BOTTLEKOPF is a heavy hitting Death Metal band from Katowice, Poland that came into its brutal as fuck existence in 2010. ‘The Jokes Are Over’ is the band’s second full-length output to date. With over 46 minutes the record is not typical for the Death Metal genre as most songs clock in with over 3 minutes and there’s even a track (‘Brainwash’) that takes over seven minutes to rip you to shreds. Sound-wise this is comparable to ENTOMBED with its brutality, groove and down low vocals. Sure, most tracks are not as long as some Prog Metal epics but nevertheless you always get the feeling that BOTTLEKOPF take their time to pleasurably twist the knife and inflict as much damage as possible with their old-school Death Metal. Sometimes the sound almost feels more of a Groove Metal or Thrash Metal kinda way because, as brutal as it is, the musicality on ‘The Jokes Are Over’ is a bit more refined and crisper than on many other Death Metal records I reviewed in the last two years.
Conclusion: If you dig Death, Thrash and the groovy side of things you are in for a treat.
