ABSENT ONE comes from Russia, they were formed in 2009 and after their debut album ‘Blowback’ they’ve returned with this one, ‘Places’. Their music is a mixture of post punk and Electronic and the only thing that might look strange is the Cabaret part. The band has a fascination with the crime movies and especially the film-noir. Their songs are inspired by from classics such as ‘The Night And The City’ to the more modern ones like David Lynch’s movies especially ‘Twin Peaks’. I think that one of their biggest regrets is that they didn’t manage to have a couple of songs in the soundtrack of ‘Sin City’. Moreover, their analogue sound fits perfectly in the tone and the style of the songs as it transmits a certain immediacy of the feeling. And they manage to move with ease into the difficult area of what once was the L.A Deathrock. So it isn’t any surprise that they’ve been influenced by the KOMMUNITY FK.
Another inspiration was to be found among the garage and psychedelic bands of late 60’s early 70’s such as THE MUSIC MACHINE. Combine all these with the heavier and dirtier sound of the INCA BABIES and you’ll have a glimpse about the style of Post Punk they are playing. The addition of Elena Fomenko in some of the songs works perfectly as she is able to transmit with freshness the femme fatale part of the vocals. Chromov and Brusov show a striking maturity in the sound of the band despite the fact that the band has been around only for a couple of years. The songs maintain a playful and quite colourful mode like a quick zapping to your favourite movies and the change of the tracks manages to keep the interest and the fun in its maximum. In other words they are a band not to be missed.
