Album Review

EKLIPSE is a newly founded classical string quartet. Very few data on this group could be found on the Internet, but most words used in their biography are “sexy”, “attractive”, “dark” and “mysterious”. And if you look at the album and listen to the music this seems to be their only strengths. Unlike my usual way to write a review I describe the whole thing with some short words, because I should waste no longer time to this album. EKLIPSE are some female APOCALYPTICA version, but they don’t reach the same virtuosity…

The young ladies have nothing more to offer except their attractive appearance and some nice clothing. Obviously, everything sounds a little nicer played by a string quartet and they're not bad players, although they're far from virtuosos. A string quartet should possess a degree of craftsmanship and skill and I would not deny the shown but I also hope, that they show some more astonishing parts on their future publications. What they deliver for their debut album is really disappointing. This CD lacks a real wow-factor and presents nothing real fascinating musical expressions. One cover version after another slowly dip on a boring line up. I must admit that there is a good recognition factor but nothing more. I completely miss the personal touch creating cover versions. Just cut of the vocals from the original wash the tunes with some fabric softener and you get ‘A Night in Strings’.

The ladies from EKLIPSE gently shimmy along the respective melodies always on guard to not disclose their heart and soul. There’s nothing private or personal inserted ideas or emotions at the whole cover versions and at my opinion this leaves a real sad feeling. If you consider how EKLIPSE was announced and with which group they started their concert-tour I should expected far more than the delivered CD. We could only hope that this young ladies show more passion and fire with their new and own compositions and thus could show what passion, skill and fire runs through their veins. I could recommend this album just for curious people who like the real sexy look and who do not lose their hope that EKLIPSE would still deliver a much more convincing job in the future.
