Client
Client A and Client B, the two ladies behind the project Client, seem to be among the most hard-working live acts if you look at their tour schedule. Straight after their tour with Erasure they hit the road again to do a headliner tour through Europe´s clubs. Of course including some places in Germany. And when Client come to your town you are going to see them, even if it´s just a mere 4 weeks ago you checked them out live. ;-)
The British Electro-Pop duo Client, protégé of Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher and first signing on his own label, Toast Hawaii, look back on a rather succesful start of the career including two great albums, various singles including a Top 40 hit in the UK (“Pornography”), support slots for Erasure and others, musical collaborations with stars like Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) and Carl Barat (Libterines), and a very supportive and loyal fanbase. Thus it might seem surprising that the two ladies still play the tiniest clubs on their recent tour, such as the Lunabar in Muenster, Germany.
Obviously Client wanted to play cities where they´ve never been before, and the Lunabar seemed the right choice to do a gig in the West-German town of Muenster.Thursday nights at the Lunabar are assigned for all fans of ElectroClash and Electronica, with the two club nights “Scirocco Club” and “Turbo3000” in 14-day rotation. Perfect for a Client show on a Thursday night there which was presented by “Turbo3000” who previousely organised concerts of other electronic based bands like “mediengruppe telekommander”, “pitchtune”, “it´s not not”, “nachlader”, “the dance inc.”, “juri gagarin” or “saalschutz”.
The only concern before Client´s show was that the Lunabar is way to small for a Client show. The club is living-room sized and the stage is nothing but a small pitch which holds the DJ booth instead. No surprise that many fans turned up at the club quite early. To cut a long story short – it wasn´t that packed as expected (or feared) but still a nice crowd. www.client-online.net

Music
At 11pm Client entered the stage, and the loud cheering made clear that people were waiting eagerly for them. They started with “It´s Rock´n Roll” and the monotonous electronic beats made clear – it´s not! Or perhaps Client´s own interpretation of Rock´n Roll, with seductive dance beats, synth melodies with a retro feeling and alluring vocals that made clear that there´s a lot of sex and eroticism in Client´s music. And some dirt and despair too, if you listen to their lyrics. It´s Rock´n Roll...

Performance
A former striptease club such as the Lunabar is somehow perfect for Client´s show. Vocalist Sarah aka Client B is lascivious and enticing, and at the same time cool and distanced. Just like you would expect to be one of the ladies who worked at the Lunabar before it became a music club. ;-) Her outfit is strikingly different, though. Instead of lingerie she´s rather dressed like an air hostess. Nevertheless quite sexy, I think. She know´s how to play with the audience, how to get them involved, how to make you feel she´s just singing for you only, just to impersonate the cool and reserved lady in the next moment. Client performed all of their singles and a lot of material off their second album “City”. The stage lighting was very poor... like we expected it in that small club: only a yellow spot from the front and a red electric heart in the back. Unfortunately the sound volume wasn´t too high – Client’s technician commented it with humourous “Just look at those speakers, I have bigger ones at home!”. Especially electronic music works best when you not only hear but also feel the music. Anyway, it was an enjoyable show, and after a 60-minute set Client finished their show with a really really brilliant cover version of David Bowie´s “Let’s Dance”. Hope that this version will be released soon! If you have chance to check out Client live, just go ahead! I guess our hardworking tour ladies will hit the road again soon... like for example during the Amphi Festival on 1st July.
