Album Review

The German electro formation EUROCIDE previously recorded the album and MCD `Europe in Dust´ (2004) plus an EP entitled with `Eden to Nod´ (2006). Therefore, the full-length album `Regen aus Asche´ is the third release made by this duo consisting of EC-HQ aka Borislav Schultheiss and R.B.M. aka Bernd Mayer who founded EUROCIDE in 2001. According to the band’s self-description, its music issues apocalyptic images and features an appropriate soundscape coming up with samples and up-tempo beats. Nevertheless, melodic synth lines join the uncompromising vocals that are pretty dark and distorted.

Atmospherically kicked off by the firstly playful but soon very rhythmic and danceable `Fallen Nations´, the album is addressed to dance-willing people who also like formations such as COVENANT, X-FUSION or ROTERSAND. Portentous drum beats open up `Der Tag´ that scores with monotonous German singings dealing with terror and war-like situations. Naturally, genre-typical samples shouldn’t be missing as heard on some tracks such as `In the Darkness´ and `Im Lager des Feindes´. Though EUROCIDE makes use of often approved ingredients, the long-player is able to captivate the listener due to its smart arrangements that really stand out from the crowd of musically related releases. In my opinion, the lyrics could have been less martial and more subtle. However, I appreciated the varied songs and the melodies´ catchiness that made it easy to find an approach to EUROCIDE’s musical work. At this point, I would like to highlight the synth pop-influenced `The Hideaway´ and the as mysterious as rousing `The Eurocide´.

To arrive at the conclusion: If you feel comfortable with rhythmic and melodic electro, you will definitely enjoy this well-done recording too.
