Album Review

It’s a long hard road from Potsdam to Berlin. What, you don’t think so? Well, in that case you’re wrong, because Erik Penny was born in Potsdam / New York. After pitching his tent in several stations like El Paso /Texas and Los Angeles /California, this young guy was looking out for some new challenges and finally arrived at his destination in Berlin /Germany. And he’s got a lot of friends over here: Frederique Labbow (Die Happy), Markus Runzeheimer, who worked with Bushido or Mocky, who collaborated with Gonzales, Feist and Jamie Lidell. Nevertheless, these manifold directions converge on ‘Bend’, Erik Penny’s third masterpiece to a unit.

Sometimes remembering me of other Singer / Songwriter acts like Kings of Convenience or Jack Johnson, ‘Bend’ never loses its uniqueness. Its bandwidth lasts from “Clap your hands-rhythms” over melancholic and soft tunes to folky songs as well. It’s a very poetic album, borne by Erik Penny’s memorable and really beautiful voice. Just let your feelings go and dream a little dream… with Erik Penny!
