Faun
This year it was the fifth edition of the biggest fantasy event in the Netherlands, the Elf Fantasy Fair. For two days all elves, gnomes, hobbits and witches of the Netherlands gathered in the gardens of a wonderful Castle. Actors from Lord of the Rings movies were there to sign autographs, there were also many writers and artists to sign and give lectures. Besides this there were many little shops where you could find al kinds of occult items, your fantasy shopping bag could be filled in no time. In-between your shopping, all the lectures and fantasy battles there was time to relax at the main stage and listen to the fabulous tunes of sweet music. One of the performing artists was..... Faun.
Faun
While working on their new album ’Renaissance’ Faun found the time to perform at the Fantasy Fair. It was a sunny day and the crowd was cheerful, a great day for some cheerful music and a dance or two.
Music
Niel (keys) started the show with an exiting intro. Then each member entered adding an extra layer to the music. First there was Fiona, who started singing a beautiful song, and then Lisa came and joined her. They sound lovely together. Then a beat set in and Oliver and Rüdiger came on stage as well. Faun has found a great way to combine ancient instruments and tunes with the modern sounds of today. For their first performance of the day Faun had to do an extensive sound check, therefore they started 45 minutes late. Each one of them is specialised in playing several instruments so all together they have a wide variety in musical possibilities. This meant they had many instruments to check and in addition to that, the means with which they had to work weren’t as ideal as they would be in a normal venue. Their second show only started 15 minutes late.

Performance
Faun are shy performers most of the time. When Lisa announces a song she does this in English but since that is not her mother tongue it can be hard causing her to look shyer that she really is. Oliver is more talkative, he announced a song which they sung for Maria (or at least he was forced to say so by other band members). There is a lot of friendly interaction between the band members; they seem to enjoy themselves on stage. When Oliver announced they were going to play a song to which an English dance could be danced, the entire audience stood up and started to dance. They all seemed to know it. When he saw this he said ”If we would have know we would have started like this, but you could have told us”, the atmosphere was festive. All band members were introduced and applauded loudly; when Niel was introduced he stood there, head banging behind his computer. It was good to see him in the spotlight for most of the time he is hidden behind the other band members.
There were lights on stage but due to the sunlight they hardly had any effect. The heat of the sun did have effect though, for a lamp broke during their performance and the glass landed on Oliver’s head, luckily no harm was done.
