Album Review
Ever since the year of 1990, the three Camargo brothers have dedicated themselves to produce fast, shredding and brutal Death Metal. After two demos, one EP and two first full-length records, the band was signed to Century Media Records in 1999. Albums like ‘Apocalyptic Revelation’ (1998) or ‘Works of Carnage’ (2003) as well as their powerful live performances brought them quite some success. With ‘The Great Execution’, the band delivers the successor of 2008’s work ‘Southern Storm’.
After a slower intro phrase, the opener ‘The Will to Potency’ starts of in a heavy way, with lots of tempo-changes and a grooving mood. With this very first song, the development of KRISIUN becomes quite clear - the early works of them, especially songs of ‘Black Force Domain’ were constructed in a very simple, yet shredding and speed-orientated manner. Nowadays, they put more variety into their music - and depict that rapidness is not the only essential criteria for brutality. By introducing different structures and solo-elements, their musical competences become clear and the single tracks can be distinguished from each other quite easily. This progress does definitely not equal a lack of brutality, since especially songs like ‘The Great Execution’ or ‘The Extremist’ shred like hell. The later one is actually a song quite characteristic for KRISIUN and furthermore possesses a relatively catchy chorus.
In general, the band still assimilates their usual disharmonies and dissonant elements and stick to their own, unique sound which makes them remarkable. ‘The Sword of Orion’ has an interesting interlude, containing acoustic guitars and a somehow folkloristic melody. ‘Extinção em Massa’ sounds like a tribute to Old School bands like SARCÓFAGO and definitely remarks a highlight of the album. To sum up, ‘The Great Execution’ constitutes a successful development in KRISIUN’s career and should not be missed, since especially their live performances are highly enjoyable.
