EP Review

STAUBKIND (“Dust Child”) is a German band founded in 2003 by their lead singer Louis Manke. They are said to have taken inspiration from such bands as OOMPH!, LINKIN PARK and EVANESCENCE. From this single I could only go with the first bearing more relevance of referencing their sound. The single ‘Kannst Du mich seh’n’ (“Can you see me”) shows off two catchy Rock songs, the catchiness conveying something of quintessentially German tradition from pop to pop-rock, but they are not limited by that. The first, single titled song starts out gently, even beautifully, and breaks with harsher guitar riffs in contrast, a very emotive song with an extremely catchy refrain, one that shows a well built intensity. ‘Gnadenlos’ (“Merciless”) is harder but misses something out of that emotional charge hitting the target as strongly as the first. However one gets a feeling it has something to say. Of course elusive to a non-German speaker, who will still enjoy it nevertheless.  After the introduction of these two there are the inevitable remixes. The Piano Version is very beautiful variation; the other two are good but without anything special to remark on. Good and solid music, with great feel for melody, hook and sense of narration.
