Album Review

British band RESIST which was formed only in 2005 already attracted the attention of fans of electronic music and this year it released the new album entitled ‘The Ride’. Preceded by single ‘I am not the Enemy’, this CD contains several potential hits and it’s definitely ready to set dance floors on fire. The first song ‘Tattooed’ creates somewhat inexorable atmosphere, where electronic sounds intensify the whole tension and it feels like the vocalist reveals us a secret. To the end of the composition everything turns into a bundle of energy which slowly fades away and it is replaced by rapider and quite danceable track that intends to make you want to move.

Solid ‘Burning up’ stands out for its accurate, even rhythm but doesn’t lessen its sonic pressure besides a listener’s imagination is also stimulated by interesting lyrics. ‘I am not the Enemy’ starts with melodic and tranquil piano passages which later on are coupled with great vocals and overlapped with the power of strict sounds producing a strong impression. Tunefulness and rigidity are combined in one composition but they don’t contrast with each other and indeed make a peculiar mixture. ‘She’s not Me’ definitely has its moments but it’s still not too expressive comparing to the rest of the material on the album yet it’s simple melody and unpretentious lyrics gives you an opportunity to relax and get ready for the next songs.

‘Addicted’ pleases with its intricate music with a slight shade of gloom while ‘Skin River’ at first surprises with strange and funny sonic effects but this impression is completely erased as the song proceeds and the music is getting calm and melancholic. ‘Crush Me’ with its tough beats and sincere vocals pulls a listener out of the drowse. Yet the last track on the CD turns out to be quite smooth and the voice plays the leading role demonstrating all its beauty. Thus I may say that my suggestion in the single review was right and ‘The Ride’ is a qualitative work full of interesting and diverse material.
