Rock am Ring Day 3 with Thy Art Is Murder, Avatar, Foo Fighters
Sunday on the Ring earned its name, as the weather kept clearing up and the RAR app broadcasted news urging everyone not to forget the sunscreen. Also the inhabitants of the campground seemed to have let off steam in the previous night, so last night was particularly recreating. In the afternoon, I had another interview scheduled, this time with Johannes Eckerström, lead lunatic of the Swedish metal band AVATAR.

Johnny Deathshadow & Red Dead Roadkill
The birthday concert: Daniela from Hamburg originally wanted to celebrate her 30th birthday as usual with friends, with a little relaxing round at home or in a bar. But then she had a thought - why not have as many friends as possible, and doing something that she enjoys most? After a pondering for a while it became clear - she should celebrate at a concert and of course, at one of their favourite bands! The nice guys of JOHNNY DEATHSHADOW were enthusiastic about the idea and were immediately on board.

Rock am Ring Day 2 with Nothing More, Shinedown, Body Count feat. Ice T, Kreator, Bullet For My Valentine, Muse, Parkway Drive

The first action of the day was to get some breakfast from the LIDL Rock-Shop at the end of the other end of the festival area. Rock am Ring Day 1 with Callejon, Babymetal, Jonathan Davis, Enter Shikari, A Perfect Circle, Thirty Seconds To Mars
When the mother of all festivals calls, you heed the call - that is the law. In this case - despite the unusually loud complaints about this year’s selection of headliners - the decision to go to “The Ring” was an absolute no-brainer, and a team consisting of Elena Arens (photographs) and Christian Beyermann (reviews) was dispatched to cover the event, which has been both the start and culmination of the summer festival season for decades for hundreds of thousands of people.

New Waves Day 2018 with Holygram, Der Fluch, Clan of Xymox, Trisomie 21, The Young Gods, Chameleons Vox, The Damned, Fields of the Nephilim
It’s twenty past two and the early and punctual guests are trying to endure the scorching sun of midday. Mr. Nice Goth waiting next to me fears of getting sunburned and I wish I also had one of those fancy hand fans that some ladies brought. Now, finally, the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen is opening its gates for the second edition of the indoor festival New Waves Day and we all rush inside. While folks were freezing during the E-tropolis festival in March, today the Turbinenhalle will definitely keep us warm. Ok, too warm, but at least we’re save from the relentless rays and, most importantly, this year’s line-up once again promises a quite diverse day with eight striking acts who all celebrate music in their very own way.
