30th July 2010
Gothicfest 2010: Skinny Puppy, Mindless Faith, Destroid, Misery, Dismantled, The Chaos Industry, Angelspit, Contrast
Besides all those big Scene Festivals like WGT, Amphi or M’era Luna, there are also the small ones, just like the Gothicfest in Dutch Steenwijk taking place for the first time (and hopefully not the last time) this year. The venue was rather small with room for a few hundred people and a lot of merch booths built up outside the concert area. Having SKINNY PUPPY and DESTROID on the bill was reason enough for me to take the 2 hours ride to be part of the evening. Sadly, only about 200 people decided the same way. Maybe people thought it is much farther to drive than it really was. Anyway, it turned out to be a really nice little festival…

Bang your Head 2010: Doro, Krokus, Artillery, Hammerfall, Dark Tranquillity, Nevermore, Queensryche, The Haunted, Twisted Sister
This is the 15th issue of the Bang Your Head Festival, beautiful located in the middle of nowhere. It was time to go back a bit in the music history and invite a lot of old school rock and metal bands from all over the world. The festival was almost sold out and started Thursday with a great warm-up show in a hall next to the festival. Headliner was good old SAXON and the evening was a journey trough the history of NWoBHM (New wave of British Heavy Metal).

24th & 25th July 2010
In Extremo, Oomph, Fiddler's Green, Pothead, Koorpiklani, Ohrenfeindt
And so it happened that on the 24th of July one of Thuringia’s prodigal sons returned home. In true style, Micha Rhein brought his band of medieval hard rockers IN EXTREMO back to his native territory for what was to be their 15 year Jubilee Festival which led to an invasion of leather clad revellers to this quiet historic town. At the very centre of Erfurt lies the Zitadelle, a vast fortress set atop a hill which looks down ominously over the rest of the town. This was the setting, complete with medieval market, for a weekend of fun, mayhem and killer music.

Gothic Festival 2010 Day 2: Skinny Puppy, In The Nursery, Front Line Assembly, yelworC, Anne-Marie Hurst, Dive, Nosferatu, Arcana, Triore, Narsilion, Militia, Seventh Harmonic
After a too short night I had a relaxed start into the day with a nice breakfast in my hotel. Usual mail checking and backing up picture followed before I left to the festival area... to have some more coffee. This day had some bands I was really looking forward to in stock. First of all SKINNY PUPPY, who delivered one of the best shows I had ever seen in my life. But before that all happened, eleven other bands were on the list with half of them I had never seen before...
