Arvika festival 2009 Day 3: Aesthetic Perfection, Diary of Dreams, Little Boots

When we came to the festival area on Saturday, the atmosphere felt some off and people seemed somehow tired but then it was only early afternoon… We were invited to a press conference with the people responsible for the festival, head of security, police and others. By Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, the Arvika festival had sold 22,500 tickets and tey were still selling one day tickets. So, they were unsure about what the exact number of visitors at the Arvika festival would be. The head of security said that they had 400 security guards on the festival ground. The police told the gathering press that this festival had been a very calm festival with few crimes and troubles and the warm weather had a lot to do with this. The people responsible for the festival were of course very happy and pleased with the festival and happy that they had had such a great, warm and sunny festival.

Aesthetic Perfection – Andromeda Stage

When we walked around some I heard something that sounded really good in my ears - it was, AESTHETIC PERFECTION, an American band who was playing on one of the smaller stages. They were really cool live with their synth-pop-punk music. AESTHETIC PERFECTION was created by Daniel Graves in 2000 and the style is a combination of dance music with pop and alternative music styles. http://www.aesthetic-perfection.net/ / www.myspace.com/closetohuman

Music & Performance
The singer Daniel Graves really had a lot of energy and a great way of interacting with the crowd - when he bounced around on stage he got the crowd moving around as well! The audience was very much into the music, dancing and bouncing to it. During a small pause, the singer Daniel Graves said that they were not used to all the attention but of course they were very happy to be here. When the band finished their set, the crowd refused to be content with it and chanted for them to return until they came back on stage again. Daniel said that they had not prepared anything extra because they did not believe that their show would get this kind of attention but after a couple of minutes they started their last song.

Diary of Dreams – Orion Stage

DIARY OF DREAMS is a German band that was formed in 1989 by singer Adrian Hates. Since I am pretty new to this band I had no idea of how big they were here in Sweden but when I came to the Orion stage/club, there was actually a crowd outside waiting for the doors to open and that was cool. When the doors opened people rushed in but when they realized how hot and sweaty it was inside some people left and during the set a lot of people could not stand the heat so they went outside to listen there instead. I am disappointed of the chosen stage and really believe that DIARY OF DREAMS could have gathered a lot more people at a larger stage. http://www.diaryofdreams.de/ / www.myspace.com/diaryofdreams

Music & Performance
When Adrian Hates and his DIARY OF DREAMS came on stage, the crowd - also several Germans came to see the show - was excited and looking forward to the gig. The set started with the first song ‘The Wedding’ out off DIARY OF DREAMS’ new album ‘(if)’. This band is very new to me but since I like them more and more, I am getting into their music very fast. I had no real expectations of how the band would be like live, I just knew that I like their latest album and the older songs I had heard but damn, I got almost blown away by experiencing DIARY OF DREAMS live!

‘King of Nowhere’, ‘Soul Stripper’ and ‘Butterfly:Dance!’ was really just great to enjoy live! The audience very much enjoyed the show and then singer Adrian thanked for the show saying that he had a splendid evening and that he had had a great time before leaving the stage. Then the crowd went wild chanting for the band to return and do an encore, they did it that loud that the entire band came back on stage again and Adrian Hates said “our time is up and since we are the first band here they have to prepare for that but we love you”. Many people were disappointed that there would be no encore but I heard as I walked outside that a lot of people were really happy with the setlist and the concert. But damn it was a very sweaty concert for us in the crowd and I don’t dare think about how it was on stage - drummer D.N.S. looked like he had had a couple of buckets with water poured over him after the show!

Little Boots – Andromeda Stage

Behind the stage name LITTLE BOOTS you find Victoria Hesketh, an English electro-pop musician. I had not heard anything about LITTLE BOOTS before but I really enjoyed their live show. The audience was into the music, danced and moved around in front of the stage. The set included songs like ‘Remedy’ and ‘Symmetry’ and this is a band that I think I will listen more to in the future. http://www.littlebootsmusic.co.uk/ / www.myspace.com/littlebootsmusic
