40 years ago Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon, and Andy Booth got together in a basement in Leeds, England with a collection of cheap second-hand guitar pedals, synthesizers, and drum machines, and created a post-punk revolution in sound with songs like ‘Moscow Idaho’, ‘One Millionth Happy Customer’, and ‘Nightfall’, which filled alternative dancefloors and topped Indie charts around the world. In 1993 they released the album ‘Sex & Death’ to a limited audience. Now, 30 years later, the band have re-recorded this classic record from scratch as ‘Death & Sex’ and it will finally achieve a worldwide release for the first time as part of their 40-year anniversary celebrations.

The “POWER UP” tour, named after their latest studio album, which reached number 1 in 21 countries, will take the band to Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France, and Ireland for 21 dates this summer. “POWER UP” will be the band’s first European tour in eight years and will see them perform in some of the continent’s largest stadiums. They are searching for new forms. For the undiscovered tone and the as yet unspoken word. Since their founding on April 1, 1980, EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN have been shifting the parameters of mainstream and subculture to make the inaudible audible. And perhaps the unheard as well. A field research experiment spanning four decades, which is now entering the next stage. In their 44th year of existence, the band is going back to their roots while simultaneously redefining themselves. A changed self-understanding, for which the Berlin quintet plus one has created its own genre in 2024: “apm - alien pop music”.
