“Motstanderen” the new album from Norwegian Black Metallers AVSTAND has been released on Misantrof ANTIRecords. Preferring to see itself as an “anti” label, and headed by its founder, CARPATHIAN FOREST bass player Daniel Vrangsinn, Misantrof’s aim is to offer an alternative to mainstream labels. Beyond covering its usually very minimal expenses, Misantrof ensures that it takes no profits and that the artists themselves retain complete control of every aspect of their releases and benefit from all the revenue generated by sales, something that is virtually unheard of with usual labels. Having previously restricted itself to releases available via free download only, AVSTAND’s “Motstanderen” is the first Misantrof release to also be available to buy in CD format. More information about the album can be found at http://avstand.misantrof.net/ . Track listing for “Motstanderen”, which is currently limited to 100 copies, is as follows:- Details

Schneewittchen
The duet SCHNEEWITTCHEN was founded in 1995 in Hildesheim by singer Marianne Iser and songwriter Thomas Duda. In the beginning, they played on cabarets and even in old people's homes, but after some years the content of the songs became too hard for cabarets and their shows too confronting and too shrill and thus they concentrated on other stages. Their music is a mixture of chanson, punk and death romanticism and many thought at that time that it can won’t work very long if a band sings only in German. Their songs are about the insatiable zest for life and the longing for the death.

Leonard Cohen
On the final day of July this year, a very special thing happens in Ireland. There comes probably one of the most revered and celebrated of modern song smiths to this land of poets - Leonard Cohen. To say that the talents of this man have passed into legend is no exaggeration and his songs have been covered in many genres from folk to rock to even rap as well as featuring in the soundtracks of many films. It's 43 years since his first album was released, but his work has a timeless mastery and mystery to it which can scarcely be surpassed, including songs such as 'Suzanne', 'Sisters of Mercy', 'Famous Blue Raincoat' and the ever lauded 'Hallelujah'.
