Amanda Palmer & Support: The Simple Pleasure & Jherek Bischoff

AMANDA PALMER for some better known as one half of the duo THE DRESDEN DOLLS surely is a person who is discussed controversially but now I will not go into that. She is also known as a very talented and passionate musician who started her solo career in 2008 with the amazing album ‘Who killed Amanda Palmer’. Last year she released her album – a Kickstarter project – ‘Theatre is evil’ together with THE GRAND THEFT ORCHESTRA.

THE GRAND THEFT ORCHESTRA consists besides AMANDA PALMER (vocals and piano) of Jherek Bischoff (bass, backing vocals), Chad Raines (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals, horn arrangements, programming), and Michael McQuilken (drums, ukulele, backing vocals). I’m wondering if she will still crowd-source some horn and string players amongst the fans volunteering to some songs on stage with her in each city she is performing as she’s been heavily criticized for doing so. Her music is a mixture of theatre, cabaret or anarchical musical dominated by her stunning piano playing and her recognizable vocals. And she has an extraordinary way to express her emotions or her attitude in life about relationships, love, sexuality or life itself with her lyrics. Her music is definitely no fast food that you just consume and then forget. With every listening the songs on her albums are getting better and better.

Due to health problems and other severe issues the tour in Europe and Australia had to be cancelled last year and is rescheduled now. The tickets that have been bought at local outlets for the cancelled dates are still good for the rescheduled dates. Performing at the GLORIA in Cologne, a former cinema and theatre built in 1956 is obviously a perfect venue as it underlines perfectly the theatrical aspect of AMANDA PALMER’s music. http://amandapalmer.net/ / https://www.facebook.com/amandapalmer

Support of the Cologne show will be THE SIMPLE PEASURE who describe their music as ElectroRockSoulSurprise. I hear influences of Style Council (without trumpets and saxophones), THE SMITHS, DAVID BOWIE as well as some of the popular music of the 80’s. For their show they are accompanied by JHEREK BISCHOFF - composer, musician and producer as well as one of the members of THE GRAND THEFT ORCHESTRA. https://www.facebook.com/pplleeaassuurree / https://www.facebook.com/jherekbischoff
