Chelsea Wolfe, the secret queen of Goth whose music transcends boundaries, has produced a new album. ‘She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She’, set to be released in early February, is a real-time rebirth exploring the interconnectedness of past, present, and future. And, of course, Wolfe once again ventures into new territory. The heavy doom guitars still crash into the tracks, but the voice sounds entirely new, possessing an intimate, ASMR-like quality, delicately and meticulously crafted. Nothing feels straightforward, left to chance, or as expected.

Wolfe worked extensively with mixer Shawn Everett to extract fine details from the vocals, weaving them into the lush sonic landscape of the production - overseen by TV On The Radio co-founder Dave Sitek - and infusing it with a sense of urgency and excitement without overwhelming the delicate sections. Consequently, the almost sculptural vocals serve as a key to the album’s meaning. This leap into the unknown should come as no surprise: Wolfe has never shied away from experimentation, crossing genres, or inventing her own hybrid forms, even though the fundamentals of her sound were apparent on her debut, ‘The Grime And The Glow’.

The spatial atmosphere, punk drums, dark melodies, and Wolfe’s commanding voice have since been the defining sonic elements, tailored to the content of the songs like an exoskeleton to a body. This is particularly true for ‘She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She’. At its core, the album is about recognizing how to navigate from the past into the future, what needs to be cut out and left behind, and what should continue to accompany us. Chelsea Wolfe poses existential questions and answers them with a musical force that nearly knocks the listener off their feet. In June, this exceptional musician will embark on tour.
