The band, founded as duo in 2002 is purposely acting enigmatic and hard-to-categorize. Initially Kate Holmes (keys, Ex-FRANZIER CHORUS, married to OASIS discoverer Allan McGee) and Sarah Blackwood (vocals, Ex-DUBSTAR) only appear with the aliases Client A and Client B. The reason: “We want to be judged by our music and not by any superficialities!” Their custom-made look reminds of uniforms and lies somewhere between the poles East European secretary/stewardess and dominatrix. Their sound is an electro variation, rooted in classical composing. Influenced by JOY DIVISION, DAVID BOWIE, KRAFTWERK, DAF, THE SMITHS and North England’s songwriting tradition, CLIENT is the perfect counterpart to the omnipresent happy commercial pop.

The debut ‘Client’ (2003) is the first release on Andy Fletchers own label and marked by weird, only superficially naïve beats, cynical and intelligent lyrics and a cold, reduced vocal style. Europe’s media and art scene reacts with enthusiasm to this Art Pop. Two songs even are being featured in Us TV series Nip/Tuck and CSI. ‘City’ (2004), the second CD was created with the help of Joe Wilson (SNEAKER PIMPS). It’s a little more rocking and with the pop culture reflection ‘In It for the Money’, lifted as a single, features an electro classic. In 2005, CLIENT became a trio with Emily Mann (bass). With this line-up they recorded ‘Heartland’ (2007). The disc featured danceable and “seductive Glamour Pop” (Laut.de), presenting itself with a sharp and wide Cinemascope sound.

With ‘Command’, produced by Youth (KILLING JOKE) and Joe Wilson (SNEAKER PIMPS), CLIENT - who are currently working with Emma Fox on bass - returned to the essence of their sound. Reduced dance tracks such as ‘Believe In You’ or ‘Satisfaction’ breathe the foggy air of scene discos, while with the sinister ’Don’t Run’, a fear scenario is being put into music and ‘Can You Feel’ has pop flair.
