Review Flash

Following up on their highly acclaimed debut, ‘Uljas Uusi Mailma’ (2012), and the EP ‘Musta Aurinko Nousee’, Finnish KUOLEMANLAAKSO further refine their unique and dark melange of Doom Metal and elements of Death Metal on their second output ‘Tulijoutsen’. The album was once again produced by V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) and sounds very warm and well-defined without being too sterile. This gives the songs a certain room to breathe and unfold, and compared to ‘Uljas Uusi Mailma’ the song-writing on ‘Tulijoutsen’ appears more elaborate and conclusive. The album features elements raging from extremely slow, to more grooving and heavy songs or even unusual experiments like ‘Glastonburyn Iehto’. Taken as a whole, ‘Tulijoutsen’ sounds very coherent and offers a high-quality release.

Conclusion: Dark, diversified and strangely beautiful.
