Formed in 1982 in Tilburg, Holland, the hard rock band VENGEANCE became well-known pretty fast after they got signed by CBS Records in 1984. Their first record and especially their first single brought them national success. Despite their positive attitude there were fights in the band and so they parted ways in 1989. They came back together around 1992/92 and started recording their next album with Ian Parry at the microphone. It is well worth mentioning that Arjen Lucassen (AYREON, STAR ONE, AMBEON, GUILT MACHINE, STREAM OF PASSION and BODINE) was a member of the band till 1992, he left between the two records ‘Arabia’ and ‘The Last of the Fallen Heroes’. Former VENGEANCE guitarist Jan Somers, born on 28 December 1964, died on 28 January 2011 in Mierlo, Netherlands, from a heart attack. He was only 46 years old. Critics are in complete agreement about the quality of the bands outputs over the last 30 years, the band released 10 records and one live album and their fan base is still strong. To my shame I have to admit that I am listening to this fine hard rocking outfit for the first time today. Singer Leon Goewie`s voice is really Impressive in its range, varying from Robert Plant like excesses to Brian Johnson moments and even tiny bits that make me think of Tobias Sammet from EDGUY.
Conclusion: The band plays very tight and dynamic, impressing with their skills relating to their instruments and how they give their vocalist enough room to show what he`s got. This is my first experience with VENGEANCE but it won`t be my last…
