MAYHEM are one of the biggest Black Metal bands of all times, founded in the 80s they have a long history of crime and death. They were one of the initiators of the 90s second wave of Black Metal. Seven years after their last release ‘Ordo ad Chao’ they return with ‘Esoteric Warfare’, featuring ten dark and rough Black Metal songs. Sometimes even with jazz like parts. It is a very grim and evil record, Attila’s diabolic vocals perfect to this mighty mass of hate. Hellhammer’s drums driving the songs forward in a mechanical way without mercy. They know were there trademarks are and to it quite well.
Conclusion: I thing a must have for all Black Metal fans who are not too underground and not too “Dimmu” styled.
