SONATA ARTICA really managed to surprise their own fans with many changes in sound among the last decade and sometimes even the reviews were more than polarizing. Their last album, ‘Pariah’s Child’, seemed to have won the band new fans while satisfying their long term fans. Listening through the older album, ‘The Ninth Hour’, I got the impression, the band tried to copy their previous album and lacked the wish to progress. The songs lack intriguing choruses and the few guitar highlights cannot make a smooth and polished album into a Metal record.
Conclusion: The album has neither shadows nor highlights, it leaves you feeling nostalgic, remembering the old controversial times.
