HERZEL from Quimper, Brittany are an Epic Metal band that was formed in 2013. The French five-piece play an old-school mix that instantly reminds of bands like MEDIEVAL STEEL, WARLORD OR SORTILÈGE. The similarities to bands like UNTO OTHERS is also not to be overheard and even a bit of old HEROES DEL SILENCIO is heard and felt. So, what do I call this strange but charming style? There are hints of NWOBHM worshipping and the European heritage and the fact that the lyrics are in French add a certain foreign allure to the already top-notch total package. All in all, I can only say that the sky should be the only limit for these guys as technically and arrangement-wise they are almost flawless. As always (you guys know me) my favourite piece of this band is the voice of singer Thomas and the guitar / bass work that steers the compositions forward.
Conclusion: This is the first band that actually sings in French that I like, did I evolve or are these guys so much better as their contemporary musicians?
