Review Flash

When it comes to Elijah Catrone’s FATHER BEFORE ME this ain’t my first rodeo, I interviewed Elijah a few months ago and yes, the band name is a Star Wars reference. I always think that the genre label Skate-Punk is not fitting enough because FATHER BEFORE ME, a one man show by the way, is more complex and the influences I detect in Elijah’s compositions are more than just Punk and Pop Rock. If you listen closely, you can always hear the influence of classic metal acts in the way Elijah plays guitar, sure there are more than enough modern acts that influenced the trippy staccato rhythms of ‘Under New Kingdoms’ but nevertheless there’s lots of NWOBHM pieces every now and then. As with the material I heard before this is music that gives off a positive overall attitude even when referencing some dark stuff, Yoda said, in the lyrics to ‘Under New Kingdoms’. Even though some of the lyrics are pretty dark the overall style they are played is uplifting.

Conclusion: Great job again, if you dig the idea of an IRON MAIDEN infused BLINK 182 you should check it out.
