Review Flash

VANQUISHER from Malmö, Sweden are no strangers to me. Last time I did a review of their Conan worshipping Epic / Power Metal was in December 2020. Two years ago I did a review of their Single ‘Shadows Over Stygia’ which featured two songs about Robert E. Howards legendary Hyborian world and one of its many Gods: Set. Those songs are featured on this full-length debut but there are nine more to indulge in. Songs like ‘Reaver’ which is an ode to the pure bad-assery of the Cimmerian savage himself or ‘Cimmeria’ a song about Conan’s mother country really bring it on for fans of the Lore. One of the things I realized when listening to the bands single two years ago is that vocalist Niord of Nordheim sounds like SAVATAGE’s Jon Oliva sometimes and that is a good thing. It is remarkable how much the band managed to evolve sound-wise, don’t get me wrong they did not experiment or totally change their ways. They just got better and the production is more crisp and full in comparison to their last outputs which were a bit less compact. Maybe this is the definite VANQUISHER trademark sound now, I guess we will have to wait and see/hear.

Conclusion: A good debut from a band that definitely knows where to get the epic lyric ideas.
