Album Review

MASSACRA were a French Death/ Thrash Metal band, which existed from 1986 until 1997. Especially their early works until 1992 were influencing for the European Extreme Metal scene. The compilation ‘ Day Of The Massacra’ includes the demos ‘Legion Of Torture’ (1987), ‘Final Holocaust’ (1988) and ‘Nearer From Death’ (1989) and is available in different editions, also including rare interviews and pictures of the band. A limited vinyl edition was only made available throughout Century Media Records.

‘Day Of The Massacra’ offers a collection of early Death Metal and thus is highly recommended for any fan of Old School Death and Thrash Metal. The songs are very fast, brutal and without any gimmicks or melodies – yet, they are definitely enjoyable. Furthermore, the songs were not (or at least not notably) re-mastered – the production is very basic and rough, yet, this suits the titles extremely well and does not falsify the distinct mood. Songs like ‘Sentenced For Life’, ‘Troops Of Death’ and ‘Legion Of Torture’ convey an authentic overview of early Death Metal and are not only enjoyable as collection but also on their own. Definitely worth buying, especially considering the background information provided with a physical release.
