Album Review

I often heard about MONI INC. here in Russia but never had time to listen to the band or maybe wasn’t in the right mood for discovering any new music of the kind. Finally there appeared a chance to find out how good the project’s songs could be but it still feels like I’ve chosen the wrong record to start with as acoustic tracks were the last things I expected to hear. And that was a pleasant surprise. Actually the musicians prepared this EP as a Christmas gift for all their fans the quantity of which definitely grew for over 10 years of the band’s existence. So the 6-track digital EP opens with the title song ‘Twice in Life’ that turns to be an absolutely new creation. The other 5 pieces are just unplugged versions of the songs.

In general the acoustic is simply great and interesting enough: the guitars are supplemented with the percussion and the piano. The whole atmosphere touches and calms and the music sounds quite original. But the vocals sometimes don’t fit in with the harmony created as it seems that the vocalist used to sing in a different way and now tries to soften that sometimes sounds pale or hoarse. Of course it doesn’t prevent a listener from enjoying the record and I’m sure all the fans of MONO INC. will be pleased with such gift or maybe new fans appear as the musicians prove how diverse they can be.
