24th November 2009
Franz Ferdinand, The Cribs
FRANZ FERDINAND is, according to various statements, always a guarantor for a funny evening with good music. On 24th November, the gentlemen came to Düsseldorf to prove that they can fully live up to all that given praise.

Hellfire Festival Day 2 - Main Stage: Serotonal, October File, Katatonia, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Fields of the Nephilim
Day two of the Hellfire Festival promised to be even better than the first with a plethora of bands that I like, particularly KATATONIA, FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and MY DYING BRIDE. It should probably be mentioned here that HELLFIRE had joined forces with MUSIC LIVE and that if you had a HELLFIRE ticket you were allowed into one of the biggest trade exhibitions of musical instruments and recording/ gigging equipment in Europe as well. Sweet! Aside from MUSIC LIVE there were good trade stalls selling clothing etc in the main hall and the scene was set well the first band, being more people here today and a better general atmosphere.

20th November 2009
Editors, The Maccabees, Wintersleep
It’s not so long ago that I discovered EDITORS for myself, but I quickly feel in love with their way of doing things and the extraordinary voice of Tom Smith, so it was absolutely clear to me that I wanted to attend one of the shows, and Bielefeld would be the place. What a debut.

[:SITD:], Reaper, Amnistia
[:SITD:] and Bochum. That already proved to be an explosive combination and I was wondering if it would be again when heading towards the mentioned city and the venue. Turns out my fears were completely ungrounded.

Hellfire Festival Day 1 - Main Stage: Beholder, Sacred Mother Tongue, Blaze Bayley, Benediction, Anvil, Saxon
We arrived at the NEC, to the usual traffic chaos that any event there brings and the extortionate parking charges they levy, which is why it's one of my pet hate venues in the whole of the UK. However in its defence it's very central to the motorway network and their car parks are reasonably secure, so your car is likely to still be there when you get back. Amenities are good, with pubs, food outlets, cash machines etc all available within eyeshot, and best of all the loos are great! Originally this was supposed to be a 3 day festival, but was changed, quite late on to a two day, starting on the Saturday. It was a masterpiece of engineering that they only lost a couple of bands (CANCER BATS being one of them) and the organisation actually looked second to none. Well done Transcend!
