Noisegate Metal Christmas: Doro, Grave Digger, Saltatio Mortis, Krypteria, Sister Sin, Ingrimm, Cast In Silence, Dead Means Nothing
It was freezing cold on this Saturday afternoon. Thus, 17 degrees below zero and constant snowfall prevented many fans from arriving too early at this year’s NOISEGATE CHRISTMAS METAL festival which should take place at the community hall in Langen. According to the organisers, the admission should be proceeded at 3pm, but there was a 30-minute delay. In the meantime, the attendees gathered in the foyer and had a look at several merchandise stands selling shirts, jackets, belts, records and all that stuff. Fortunately, a further stand offered various drinks and hot coffee I couldn’t resist. When the doors were finally opened at 30 minutes past 3pm, the small crowd was pouring into the hall that came up with an impressive stage including a lot of equipment and a promising lighting system. Within some minutes, the first act DEAD MEANS NOTHING appeared on stage - it was the guys´ turn to let the show begin.

U. D. O., Dezperadoz
One of the rocks on which the German heavy metal scene was founded had announced its appearance at the Colos-Saal on 15th December 2009: Former ACCEPT front man Udo Dirkschneider, Stefan Kaufmann (guitar), Igor Gianola (guitar), Fitty Wienhold (bass) and Francesco Jovino (drums) are on `Dominator´ tour which had been named after the most recent long-player that was released in this year’s August. Completed by German rock band DEZPERADOZ, the evening’s line-up was a very promising one for many metal heads who had come to the Colos-Saal. As didn’t experience both formations before, I was quite astonished to see that the audience finally consisted of mainly male listeners whilst there were very few women.

Finale in Black: Satyricon, Shining, Dark Fortress, Posthum
On this freezing afternoon, I attained Frankfurt during the rush-hour, luckily finding a suitable car park pretty close to the venue, which is located in the inner city. Katrin, who would be taking photos during the concert, was already waiting for me so we found our way to the Batschkapp where we arrived at quarter past five. About an hour before the doors would open, we were the first to queue and somehow made the acquaintance of several rats that were running around the tracks and the whole area.

My Name is Claude, Susanna Berivan
I arrived accurate at 8:00PM at Schlesische Str. 41. That area from Berlin is well known as an artistic place where you can find many different people and unique places. The L.U.X (long version: “Leiseste Unterhaltung Xberg”/ “Quietest entertainment Berlin Kreuzberg”) is a small, but very atmospheric club. And like the name of the club, I was in pleasant anticipation of the music I expected. As I entered the hall, I was surprised because of the very familial spirit inside. There were a big u-formed bar, some padded benches where some people still were waiting for the gig, a little stage, a few instruments on it. I did know that it would be a small concert, but the nice and warm atmosphere caught me in seconds.

I Am Ghost, Still Phantoms
It was the week before Christmas and not a single person was stirring except perhaps some ghosts? On December 18, 2009 a handful of loyal followers gathered at the world famous “Whisky A GO-GO” in Hollywood, to oversee the mischief misfits I AM GHOST with their counter partners STILL PHANTOMS.
