Darkstorm Festival: Eminence of Darkness, Welle:Erdball, Tanzwut, Implant, Diary of Dreams, Agonoize, Blutengel, De/Vision, Covenant
hearing that one of my most favorite bands ever – COVENANT – will be playing at the Darkstorm Festival and knowing that I’ll spend Christmas not too far away I made the decision to attend the festival, taking place on the Christmas day, very fast. The Darkstorm Festival was celebrating its 10th anniversary with a very nice line-up. When we arrived at the Stadthalle just at the time when the doors opened, a huge mount of people was already waiting to go in. Entrance procedures went quite fast and soon we left the cold outside and entered the warm venue. Inside, there was a big hall with the main stage and a smaller one with a second stage where later on IMPLANT, AGONOIZE and DE/VISION were playing. In the foyer you could get food and beverages for very reasonable prices. The festival was perfectly organized and we had a great evening in Chemnitz. http://www.darkstorm-festival.de

Accession Festival: Faderhead, Painbastard, Diorama, [:SITD:], Diary of Dreams
Accession Records was celebrating its 10th birthday with a festival at the Kulturfabrik Krefeld presenting five bands ob the label’s artist roster. Accession Records stands for high-quality electronic music and so, the festival line-up promised an interesting evening – and an early Christmas present too for that matter. Label boss is DIARY OF DREAMS mastermind Adrian Hates who gathered several interesting electronic acts within the label. When the venue opened at 18:00 people flowed constantly into the venue and an hour later, the opener FADERHEAD saw himself in front of quite a big crowd – not that common for that early hour.

Aeternus, Flesh made Sin, Melechesh, Moonsorrow, Necrophobic, Skyforger, Tankard, Anathema, Arch Enemy
The Arnhem Metal Meeting was held for the third time. Also it was the third year in the Musis Sacrum in Arnhem. The Musis sacrum is officially a theatre. Only once a year all the seats are put in storage, the place get decorated with all different posters, big PA sets are pulled out, and The Musis sacrum is turned into a Walhalla for the Dutch metalheads. This year again, the AMM team worked their butts off making sure there was a nice varied line-up and everything was arranged. So on Saturday morning me and my companion made our way from Utrecht to Arnhem. An adventure to come…

The Gathering
The Gathering, starting as a doom metal band, was founded in 1989 by the brothers René and Hans Rutten and Bart Smits. New members joined the band and in 1992, they released their first official album ‘Always’. Not a long time later they encountered the dark side of the music business. New hope arose when a new singer came into the picture, Anneke van Giersbergen. With her, the band released the atmospherical album ‘Mandylion’, followed by ‘Nighttime Birds’. Throughout the following years, their music had changed from dark, heavy riffs to a more melancholic and psychedelic sound. Currently they're doing an extensive clubtour through The Netherlands called the "Homelands Tour" to promote their latest studio album "Home". The band members are: Anneke van Giersbergen (vocals), René Rutten (guitars), Marjolein Kooijman (bass guitar, backing vocals), Frank Boeijen (keyboards, programming) and Hans Rutten (drums, percussion, loops). http://www.gathering.nl/ / http://www.myspace.com/gatheringofficial

Mostly Autumn
Finally, it was time for Mostly Autumn’s annual pre-Christmas concert at Boerderij in Zoetermeer! I sadly had to miss last year’s gig, which was especially regrettable given its special nature. Fortunately, I was able attend this time around, with special thanks to the band.
