Ahoy, Rotterdam, the Netherlands
16 October 2007
Rush

Canadian prog band Rush is yet again back in the Netherlands to give their fans a long concert. Special for this night is the fact that the band will be recording their new DVD in Rotterdam. Two nights in a row unfortunatelly is a bit too much for the Dutch audience so the venue is only half full this night but those who were there have seen a great show.

Rush

The band has been around for quite a while and since the last tour they have released their latest album 'Snakes And Arrows'. That normally means time for another tour and the fans all over the world were surprised and even sometimes angry to see that they were recording the new DVD in Rotterdam. For those who haven't seen the shows of this tour, it'll be well worth waiting for the DVD, since the show was really something.

Music & Performance
When the intro starts a movie of the three band members is being played on the projection screen right behind the impressive drumkit. Strangely enough the band has decided to put a few chicken ovens on stage at the location where you'd normally find the bass speakers. A little gimmick that clearly shows the men are not ready to be entirely serious and that would prove to have a good effect on the music. Of course the vocals of Geddy Lee are still going strong, as is his bass playing, or keyboarding in a number of songs. Basically it seems like Geddy is enjoying himself on stage and that is reflected in his music as well as in the big smile on his face. In the mean time Alex Lifeson on guitar provides the melodic counterpart to the strong bass and impressive drumming by Neil Peart. But it's not just the music that stays in your mind, the show itself was wonderful with a lot of light on stage, plenty of changing projections of the live playing artists and some very funny intro movies, like Southpark playing Rush just before the song Tom Sawyer. Well of course sound can ruin everything but again these men of Rush managed to get a crew together that provided the bathttub like Ahoy with some high quality sound. So there are no complaints? Well of course there are... why are we still waiting for that DVD!?
