Day 1: This Morn´ Omnia, Unheilig, Zeraphine, Goethes Erben, Project Pitchfork, Client
After raining the whole day, the rain stopped just in time for the start of the festival and a blue sky appeared over the “Amphi Theater” in Gelsenkirchen. As I arrived at the location there were a lot of people waiting outside to change their tickets into the festival bands and to go into the venue. As always when you do something new, there were some minor difficulties with the first Orkus Open Air in Gelsenkirchen too. So the people had to wait really long until they could go in. Due to these problems the promoters started with the second band “Unheilig” one hour later then planned so that most of the people had a chance to see them.

Client
Client A and Client B, the two ladies behind the project Client, seem to be among the most hard-working live acts if you look at their tour schedule. Straight after their tour with Erasure they hit the road again to do a headliner tour through Europe´s clubs. Of course including some places in Germany. And when Client come to your town you are going to see them, even if it´s just a mere 4 weeks ago you checked them out live. ;-)

Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Metal Church, Life of Agony, Soilwork, Messugah, Accept, Epica, Scarve, Entombed, Strapping Young Lad
Although Waldrock was not sold-out, it was considerably busy on the festival ground. There even arose traffic-jams in front of the parking place in the little town of Burgum. Because of the mud it even went slower then I hoped. As a result, I missed the kick off of the festival, the ‘Frisian’ band: Icepick. The tone was set when the Christian demonstrators started to distribute cards and ‘provoking’ young people who came from the campsite and waited for the entrance, had some nice discussions.

June 11th 2005
Meat Loaf, Dream Theater, Survivor, Styx
After a kilometres walk from the station, through rain and sunshine, I arrived at the festival ground. One huge stage was set up and one tent. When a performance at the main stage was going on, the tent was made ready for the next band and vice versa. There was a little festival market and many food and drink stands which some might have visited a bit too often….. but all in all there was a nice and friendly atmosphere.

Graspop festival, Baflo, The Netherlands
June 4th 2005
Nemesea and Intwine
After a goodnight sleep and recovery from the night before at Herrie Festival in Heerde, the band and I started the day with fresh energy. Around 3 o’clock Manda (vocals), Hendrik-Jan (guitar) and I drove to Groningen to pick up the rest of the band and head out to Baflo. There we were friendly received and all ready to perform…
