The year was 1981 and British Synth Pop duo SOFT CELL had just watched their debut single ‘Memorabilia’ fail to chart. Feeling the pressure from their label, the band went for broke with a risky manoeuvre, releasing their downtempo cover version of a 1964 Northern Soul tune by Gloria Jones called ‘Tainted Love’. The gamble paid off as the single rocketed to the top of the charts, becoming the best-selling single in the UK for that year as well as helping make their debut album ‘Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret’ one of the most iconic synthpop albums of all-time!

JYRKI 69, best known as the leader of the Finnish Band THE 69 EYES, made the best of the long waiting time until the music world turns back to normal and kept himself busy with releasing new music with THE 69 CATS and working on his second solo album.
