Review Flash
MAEGI is the brainchild of Oganalp Canatan, the vocalist of Turkey`s DREAMTONE. Oganalp Canatan is not only the singer of three bands but he holds a degree in Accounting Information Systems. He also composes music for indie-game developers and works as a graphic designer for companies (the guys really is a jack of all trades). With his band DREAMTONE and D&IM's NEVERLAND, he has released seven singles and albums, also collaborating with metal`s finest such as Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Jon Oliva (Savatage, Trans Siberian Orchestra), Tom Englund (Evergrey), Mike Baker (Shadow Gallery), Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery), Edu Falaschi (Angra) and Urban breed (Tad Morose). Last year he released his very own new band MAEGI`s debut ‘Skies Fall’ that I am listening to right now. The overall musical approach is classic prog/ power metal (BLIND GUARDIAN comes to mind when listening to ‘A Different Fate’). The song ‘Those we have left behind’ is featuring Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and that song is the first real highlight I detected. ‘Demise of Hopes’ is refined with Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest/ Iced Earth) voice.
Conclusion: This is a nice record but it`s not the next big thing and no reinvention of anything metal
