Flash Review

Does it work out if a band from the "sunniest state" across the ocean feeds its musical organism with proto-European influences? Namely with the melancholy, floating gloom and velvet harmony of bands like THE CHAMELEONS, PINK TURNS BLUE, THE SOUND and KITCHEN OF DISTINCTION? In the case of the Miami-based ASTARI NITE I think it works very well. Their third long-player sounds like a tribute to the glorious days of the 80s guitar / Darkwave, filled with all the essential ingredients like delay, flange, elegy and sonic ground fog. The ten tracks on ‘Stereowaltz’ are wrapped in a really pleasing atmosphere, are shaped melodic and catchy but always coated with a subdued wistfulness, varied but focused on the basics and historical credible without sounding outdated or old-fashioned, making it more than being just a pure reminiscence.

Conclusion: It remains to be seen what step they take next, but it seems worth to keep an eye on!
